Ronda, Spain
This mountaintop city located in South Spain is a perfect location for couples looking for a romantic city when traveling to Spain. Whether you are traveling to spend a night or two, or looking for a longer stay, Ronda has a lot to offer.
The city of Ronda is located on the cliffs surrounding the Guadalevín River. One of the most famous bridges in Ronda, called the Puente Nuevo, stretches over the river connecting the historic Moorish town to the Market town also known as the modern area of Ronda. Along this bridge you’ll find many opportunities to take photos of the stunning landscape surrounding the city and gaze down at the 320ft drop to the bottom of the ravine. One of Ronda’s most popular tourist attractions is located just past the entry to the old town off of the Puente Nuevo bridge. The Tajo de Ronda is a curvy course that takes you through the lower mills and down to the river. I suggest wearing old shoes or tennis shoes, because the mill can get muddy and slippery. Along this path you can can really get a feel for how high up the city is positioned.
Next up in Rhonda is the Alameda del Tajo public park. This park is a quiet, romantic, and a picturesque spot to spend the afternoon. Surrounding the park you will find many restaurants, beautiful hotels, and shops. These hotels are definitely worth noting and relatively inexpensive for the the view and amenities (I will link below). Next door to these hotels is the world famous Bull Ring of Ronda. It’s only open at certain times of the day for tourists, so be sure to check out their website for times.
Ronda is a city that should be explored by foot, so having a car is definitely not needed to see everything. There is a main train and bus station in Ronda so if you are traveling through Spain you should definitely add this city to your list of stops. If you are traveling by car, there are a few cheap long term parking lots in the newer area of Ronda where you can leave your car for an extended amount of time. If you are staying in the old town with a car… good luck! This area of Ronda is slowly becoming a car free zone and many of the spots will be taken by the residents living there.
While wandering the streets of Rhonda we stumbled upon Restaurante Almocabar, a restaurant that offered many traditional Spanish meats. Although eating meat is not my thing, the people I was traveling with said it was some of the best food they ever had. I also would recommend trying the Herederos Del Marques De Riscal Verdejo wine if you decide to go!
I can’t wait for you all to experience the charming atmosphere of Ronda and its stunning views.
‘til the next trip,
Leez
